This event is a one day event. The session focuses on major legislative actions passed by the Virginia General Assembly in the past year. Additionally, sessions will offer in-depth analysis and guidance on recent legislation of special interest, and training for enhancing local planning administration. The program is designed to provide BZA members, planning commissioners, and professional planners with the most timely and relevant information to guide their work on emerging issues. In addition to legislative issues, attendees will review and discuss utility-scale solar ordinance design and taxation, recent changes in sign ordinance law, and "Air BnB" legislation. Other issues for audience consideration include effect of past years proffer, on-farm agriculture, and "fracking" law. Last, a session on water law and planning will be provided. After attending this event, attendees will be better able to revise existing ordinances and zoning regulations, and plan for emerging trends in local land use planning.
