Chapter Budget

Preparing a budget that incorporates so many Chapter goals and objectives is an important cog in the running of the Chapter. The budget supports the excellent work being undertaken by our Board members to bring events, symposia, presentations, webinars and AICP certification maintenance, and the Annual Conference to the membership. Our 2022 conference held in-person, in Richmond, was a success on many levels, the content, the networking, and the camaraderie. Financially, Richmond had larger-than-expected expenses and just went slightly over budget. Our Chapter Administrators who we rely on to manage our annual conference always have some crucial game-time decisions regarding food, audio-visual, and other expenses, based on the projected numbers of attendees and sponsor contributions. Inflation costs also drove up expenses. If projected versus actual attendee numbers are off, it can change the outlook of a conference’s financial picture. The 2023 Roanoke conference was likewise a success. Expenses for 2023 were lower, and revenues were good, so we rebounded in 2023 to pre-pandemic conference financials. We appreciate our many sponsors whose contributions have helped our conferences, webinars, and events be successful. Of course, we truly appreciate all of you, the members, who show up and make all our Chapter events successful and engaging.

A link to the 2023 financial statement is below. Our revenues and expenses indicate the Chapter is financially stable. The independent financial audit of 2023 stated that the Chapter's financial statements for 2023 “present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of the Virginia Chapter of the American Planning Association.” We encourage as many planners as possible to attend our 2024 Williamsburg annual conference, and we thank and rely on the continued support of our financial sponsors. If any of our members have any questions or concerns about our financial status, you are welcome to email <treasurer@apavirginia.com>
