APA Virginia Legislative & Policy Program

OBJECTIVE & STRATEGY

  • To improve the legislation and regulations under which planning operates in Virginia
  • Continue to organize the legislative processes and procedures of the Chapter
    o Include members of each Section in the Legislative Committee
    o Develop specific operating policies and procedures
  • Develop Chapter positions and comments on proposed APA planning policies
  • Identify, monitor and participate in legislative study commissions
  • Offer as appropriate technical assistance on planning issues to the legislators and staff
  • Develop Chapter positions on legislation
    o Legislative Committee evaluates bills and develops consensus position
    o Position statement is reviewed by Chapter Board's Executive Committee
    o If appropriate, coordinate positions with other planning related organizations to achieve unified response
    o Send Chapter positions on specific legislation to targeted legislators.
  • Coordinate testimony and inform APA Virginia members of bills affecting planning in Virginia.
  • Conduct weekly virtual updates for the Legislative Committee and support members efforts to communicate with legislators and staff.

Chapter Legislative Committee

Are you interested in advising and providing input regarding legislative matters with particular attention to those before the Virginia General Assembly, policy positions taken by the Chapter, and APA Policy Guides? Join the Chapter Legislative Committee!

Meetings are held from 12pm-1pm weekly on Fridays throughout General Assembly Session and every 4th Monday of the month after Session. To join the email notification list and access the Zoom links, please email admin@apavirginia.com with "APA Virginia Legislative Calls" in the subject line.
