Piedmont Section
The Piedmont Section is one of nine subdivisions of the APA Virginia Chapter. This section is an active group of approximately 160 professional or student planners who either live or work in the western Piedmont and Blue Ridge of Virginia. Our members have careers in the public sector and in private practices. Several members are also students or professors at the University of Virginia's Urban and Environmental Planning Program. Piedmont Section has a vast array of skillsets and specializations. This diverse collection of professionals and students can take advantage of the several events and networking opportunities provided by this section. Piedmont draws together all of these members to provide training, foster relationships and raise the stature of planning as a profession and practice in our localities..

Section Details
The Piedmont Section includes 27 localities, including counties, cities and towns. In terms of area, it spans approximately 5,017 square miles, from Piedmont hills in the east and south to the Blue Ridge and its foothills in the west. This section is midsized, by landmass, out of the nine established by APA Virginia. The total population is relatively small, with 427,964 people who call this area home. This makes Piedmont the second smallest section by total population. Though this area is relatively small, the natural beauty, quality of life and sense of community make the Piedmont area a great place to live and work.
