Hampton Roads Section
The Hampton Roads Section is one of nine subdivisions of the APA Virginia Chapter. This section is an active group of approximately 250 professional planners who either live or work in Eastern Virginia. Our members have careers in the public sector and in private practices. Hampton Roads Section has a vast array of skillsets and specializations. This diverse collection of professionals can take advantage of the several events and networking opportunities provided by this section. Hampton Roads draws together its members to provide training, foster relationships and raise the stature of planning as a profession and practice in our localities.
Hampton Roads Section includes 26 localities, including counties, cities and
towns. It is home to the Chesapeake Bay and the State's largest cities, along
with a strong coastal port presence. In terms of area, it spans approximately
5,516 square miles, stretching the coastal plains region of the Commonwealth.
This landmass makes Hampton Roads the third largest section out of the nine
established by APA Virginia. There is a significant population of 1,675,005
people who call this area home. This makes Hampton Roads the second largest
section by total population.
