The Northern Virginia Section is one of nine subdivisions of the APA Virginia Chapter. This section is an active group of approximately 580 professional planners who either live or work in Northern Virginia. Our members have careers in the public sector and in private practices. Several members are also students or professors at Virginia Tech’s Northern Virginia Center, Urban Affairs and Planning Program. Northern Virginia Section has a vast array of skillsets and specializations. This diverse collection of professionals and students can take advantage of the several events and networking opportunities provided by this section. Northern Virginia Section draws together all of these members to provide training, foster relationships and raise the stature of planning as a profession and practice in our localities.

Section Details

The Northern Virginia Section includes 20 localities, including counties, cities and towns. The region is part of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.  In terms of landmass, this section is relatively small, spanning 1,336 square miles.  While this section is the smallest section, by landmass, out of the nine established by APA Virginia, it has the largest population of 2,216,350 people who call this area home. .
