Job Summary
The Loudoun County Department of Planning and Zoning is seeking an experienced land use professional planner in the Land Use Review Division. In this position, you will manage the review of complex legislative land development applications for compliance with County land use ordinances and policies. This position provides recommendations to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors and presents at night meetings. During project review, you will coordinate with other departments and agencies, prioritize tasks, meet critical deadlines, negotiate with applicants, autonomously manage multiple assignments, and present cohesive technical analysis to decision-makers. This position plays a large role in the implementation of the Loudoun County 2019 General Plan and is part of the planning team that will guide the evolution of the County’s diverse Place Types, including rural, suburban, transitional, and urban communities.
This position is eligible for a $6,000 hiring bonus in accordance with the County’s Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Planning, Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a related field; five (5) years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred experience include progressively responsible work experience at a level that required management of complex planning and land use projects. Experience using ArcGIS and Bluebeam Revu software is desired. The ideal candidate will have American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification or the ability to achieve certification within two (2) years.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
This position requires a valid driver’s license, criminal, and DMV background checks. Teleworking two (2) days per week is an option after a training period. Relocation assistance is available to successful candidates who live more than forty (40) miles away.
This position requires an analytical thinker with real-word experience in land planning, building and site design review, and resource preservation. This position requires the ability to manage a high case load, prioritize tasks, meet critical deadlines, adapt to a variety of situations, and interact with other staff, applicants, top governmental officials, and citizens. The ideal candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to present at regular evening public hearings and public work sessions.
